Nalbinding (also spelled naalbinding, nalebinding, nalbindning and other variants) is an ancient fabric construction technique that predates knitting and crochet by some 2000 years.
Nalbinding is done with short lengths of yarn and a blunt needle (e.g. a tapestry needle). The technique was used by the ancient Egyptians, and was very widespread in Scandinavian peoples such as the Vikings (which is why it is sometimes called Viking Knitting)
