Fabric used: bottom weight cotton twill
I copied an old and tatty RTW Guess trench coat I bought many years ago at a sample sale. It never fitted properly, but I liked the style, and always planned to copy it. To make the pattern, I used the top part of my coat block pattern (the one I used for the Alice in Wonderland coat), cut it at the waist and re-drafted it as a double-breaster. Then I drafted the skirt part of the coat with all the bells and whistles.
Then I decided that I want sleeves that I can remove, given the climate I live in, that means I'd wear it more often and can layer it.
Construction details:
- silk twill lining, bagged, attached by hand at armhole and sleeve zipperbands
- non-fusible sew in interfacing at collar, facings and neck hole
- woven stay tape at waist and shoulder seams
- fusible interfacing at hem and sleeve hem allowances, pocket edge front/back flap and
armhole seam allowances
- sleeves are zipped in, I used the lapped zipper technique |
