Notes I chose red and blue fabrics to make my first log cabin quilt. The squares are about 6 inches. I sewed strips of blue on one side of the square and red strips on the other. I arranged 4 of the 6 inch squares together to make a bigger square with the red facing the center. I added a blue sashing between the squares and a blue border. The backing and binding are made from a striped fabric. I used my walking foot to stitch in the ditch, and free motion quilting to fill in the squares and borders.

Such a delightful quilt. The children will love it.
The log cabin design is so versatile with a number of pleasing patterns which can be made with different arrangements of the blocks. Adding the sashing makes for a really different design and works very well. A sophisticated and yet child-friendly colour way. Such a good choice since the older children (or those thinking they have just about outgrown childhood) probably would not appreciate anything fussy.
The binding really brings out the stripes used in the main body of the quilt.
